Fashion outpost
When visiting Rawene next, do pay a visit to Outpost in the main street. Here you will find Lise Strathdee, a fashion designer from Milan. The shop is filled with her creations as well as paintings by international artist Barbara Strathdee ( Lise's mother). Get Lise talking about her life in the fashion industry and you will be enthralled.
Lise was born in London and grew up in Italy and New Zealand. She graduated in 1984 with a Fashion and Textile degree from the Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Italy.
Her first design job was at Fiorucci swiftly followed by a consultancy for a company based in New Dehli. The brief was to design a collection for the European department store market. In late 1985 she landed her first proper full time job as Romeo Gigli's right hand design assistant. Lise worked in many different areas - accessories, embroideries, knitwear,fittings textile research, show castings whilst alos handling international press relations.
Lise is currently in NZ on a "a long stop" designing the interiors for her eclectic arts and crafts shop Outpost and contributing to Urbis design magazine. Plans to open a store in London and spend time in Europe are afoot as is to continue working in fashion and publishing. Lise lives in Kohukohu.
